Accessibility

Accessibility statement

This site is intended to be usable by everyone the programme serves, including people using a screen reader, a keyboard alone, magnification, or an old phone on a weak connection.

The standard applied

The site is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2, level AA. Accessibility is treated as part of the build rather than as a later correction, because the people this scheme is for include the people most often shut out by a site that assumes a fast connection and a new device.

What that means in practice

  • Every page and every form works with JavaScript switched off. Nothing essential depends on a script running.
  • Nothing is loaded from another website. No external fonts, no analytics, no embedded media players, no content delivery network. The site is designed to open on a weak mobile connection in a Local Government Area far from Lafia.
  • Pages are built from real headings, lists, tables and landmarks, in a sensible reading order, with a “skip to main content” link at the top of every page.
  • Every form field has a real label, related fields are grouped under a legend, and errors are linked to the field they belong to and announced rather than shown only in colour.
  • Colour is never the only way meaning is carried, and text meets the required contrast against its background in both the light and the dark parts of the design.
  • The site can be operated by keyboard alone, and what has focus is always visible.
  • Text can be enlarged to 200 per cent, and the layout reflows to a narrow screen without a horizontal scroll on the page itself.
  • Photographs carry alternative text describing what is shown, with the programme, the location and the date given in the caption in readable text rather than burned into the image.
  • Motion is minimal, and animation is disabled entirely for anyone whose device asks for reduced motion.

Known limitations

Stated plainly, because a statement that claims perfection is not useful:

  • Wide tables — the Local Government focal-point directory, the list of figures the programme withholds — scroll sideways inside their own frame on a small screen. The frame is reachable by keyboard, but a wide table remains harder to read on a phone than on a larger screen.
  • Photographs carry short alternative text. They do not carry long descriptions of every person and object in the frame.
  • Documents supplied by other institutions, where they are published, may not meet the same standard as the pages of this site. Tell the programme office if you need one in another format and it is provided.

If you cannot use part of this site

Nothing in this programme depends on being able to use a website:

  • A nomination can be completed on paper through your Local Government secretariat and entered by programme staff on your behalf.
  • Information published here is available in large print or read aloud on request from the programme office.
  • Accommodation you need in order to attend the training itself — seating, access, assistance during field practicals — is asked for on the nomination form and arranged for you.

Reporting a barrier

If something on this site is difficult or impossible for you to use, write to info@cdtin.org describing the page and what happened. Reports are treated as defects, not as complaints, and are prioritised against the same list as any other fault. Say what would help and, where it can be done, it is done.
